NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Bernie Williams stopped by the WFAN studios for "Hungerthon" on Tuesday, and one of the topics the Yankees great discussed was rising star Gary Sanchez.
"I was a little bit surprised," Williams said of how the young catcher exploded onto the scene this summer. "After all, you're playing in the big leagues and you get people making adjustments on you on a constant basis, and we have the advent of technology and video and all this kind of stuff -- you get to really study a player, you try to figure what are his weak points. But he still managed to make the adjustment.

"When you can hit, you can hit. That's one thing that's cool about this game. When you see the talent there, you kind of half to self-destruct in order for you to not be able to perform. And some people are great because they have natural ability and they put that ability to work. ... I'm pretty sure that he has probably gone through the ringer, working hard through the minor league system."
