Bang Your Head! Mark Teixeira To Appear Tonight In 'Rock Of Ages'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Need a night out?

Do you like baseball? Rock and roll?

A certain first baseman for a certain team in the Bronx will be making his Broadway debut in "Rock of Ages" on Tuesday night.

"Yes, I have decided to expand my array of talents," Yankees star Mark Teixeira told WFAN's Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton. "I will be premiering on Broadway tonight. That's right."

Rock On, Mark

Teixeira wasn't sure if he'd have a full line, but may deliver a word or two. The 32-year-old couldn't pass up the opportunity when asked if he'd be interested in spending a night with the crew and joining the cast on stage.

He just can't this feeling any more.

"I've got the mullet -- it's natural though, I've been growing it for the last few months," Teixeira said. "And I have some tight leather pants (that) I'm gonna be rocking."

The show, described as "a full-out, blast-off, hold-onto-your-hairspray celebration of the great rock music of the 80s" at the Helen Hayes Theatre, is right in the first baseman's wheelhouse.

"Absolutely. Absolutely," he said. "I was born in the '80s -- I was born in 1980, and rocking out as a young pup in Severna Park, Maryland, to some of the great '80s songs, it was a good time for me."

Just don't expect Teixeira to sing during his one-night-only "Rock of Ages" appearance.

"If you're from out of town, they're gonna say 'Who's this hack that they have on stage?'" Teixeira said. "But the Yankee fans I think will enjoy it. ... They have a great product. They wouldn't risk the reputation of their show by letting me belt out a few lines."
