Back Problems Flaring Up Again For Yankees Infielder Youkilis

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Kevin Youkilis sat out of the New York Yankees' lineup on Sunday because of a bad back, one day after his return from a six-game layoff.

He is set to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the seriousness of the injury.

In a season where the Yankees are beset by injuries, constant back problems are plaguing Youkilis. On Saturday, the Bombers placed Ivan Nova and Francisco Cervelli on the disabled list.

Youkilis played first base and was 0-for-3 with a walk in New York's 5-4 win Saturday against Toronto. Yankees manager Joe Girardi decided not to start him in Sunday's finale of the four-game series.

Girardi says that while Youkilis felt OK Saturday he suspects the infielder is now a "little stiff." Girardi adds that this is a "little concerning" because he's said along that "backs can be tricky."
