Another Shooting Rocks Troubled Long Island Town

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY (WCBS 880) - It was at 165 Railroad Street in Huntington Station where police say four men were on the front porch of a two-story beige home around 11 p.m. Tuesday, when a man with a gun jumped over the fence and started shooting.

One of the men, identified by the Suffolk County Police Department as 25-year-old Russell Peterman, was killed and the other three were shot and rushed to the hospital.

The suspect fled the scene and is still at large.

Police say the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or anonymously Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Authorities tell WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall that one of the victims who survived was actually shot just a few weeks ago in front of another home nearby on Church Street.

Next door to this latest shooting is a day care. The manager said, "It's unfortunate, especially on the first day of school. The community needs to get together and start working on the problem down here."

No one at the home where the shooting happened would speak to Sophia Hall, but the window of the front door is shattered.

Since May, there have been over a dozen shootings or stabbings, plus two murders in the troubled Long Island town.
