AAA: Gas Prices As Low As $1.56 In New Jersey

TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Motorists continue to see lower prices at the pumps in New Jersey.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the state on Friday was $1.56, down 3 cents from last week. That's also much lower than the price from a year ago, when motorists were paying $2.16.

The national average price on Friday was $1.73, up a penny from last week. But that's still much lower than the national average from a year ago, when motorists were paying $2.34.

Analysts say gas prices could rise in the coming weeks, as refineries conduct annual maintenance and continue the process to bring summer-blend gasoline to the market.

But they also note that demand for gas remains low while supplies are soaring.
