3 Injured When Fire Sweeps Through UWS Apartment Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An extra-alarm fire ripped through an apartment building on the Upper West Side Monday evening, leaving three people injured.

The broke out on the building at 471 West End Ave., between 82nd and 83rd streets, shortly before 7:30 p.m., the FDNY told 1010 WINS.

The blaze was soon raised to a second alarm.

Cell phone video provided to CBS 2 showed that the fire spread through several floors of the building, causing a ceiling collapse.

Firefighters got everyone out, but one resident was seriously injured, and another suffered minor injuries, FDNY officials said. They were taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center in unspecified conditions.

A firefighter also suffered minor injuries during the blaze.

A firefighter was also injured.

A total of 105 firefighters responded to the scene.

The fire was under control by 8:40 p.m., officials said.
