HEADLINES: Gaza citizens flee from expected Israeli ground offensive (Video)
A million residents of northern Gaza were warned by Israel's military to flee to the south, in advance of an anticipated ground offensive – and many of them did. But Palestinian officials say some evacuees were killed by Israeli airstrikes that have hammered the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, Hamas is threatening to kill hostages they took in last week's assault. Correspondent Holly Williams reports from Tel Aviv.

For two weeks around Labor Day, Ted and Kris Grinter's farm in Lawrence, Kansas becomes a mecca for sunflower lovers from near and far. Correspondent Mo Rocca talks with the Grinters about the thousands of visitors that come each year to admire their seemingly endless fields. He also talks with Caitlin Eckard of Powell Gardens about sunflower lore, and with Steve Kaufer (known as "Sunflower Steve"), who shows Mo how he produces some unique varieties.

MOVIES: Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon": A true story of love and evil | Watch Video
Director Martin Scorsese's latest film is an adaptation of David Grann's bestseller of early 20th century Oklahoma, about a scourge of suspicious deaths of members of the Osage tribe who had become fabulously wealthy because of their oil rights. Correspondent Lee Cowan talks with Scorsese, Grann, and with stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone, about truthfully representing the Osage and the reign of terror.

The unimaginable barbarity of the surprise attack on Israel by the terrorist group Hamas has dimmed the prospect of peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Yet, Israel has been making progress in rapprochement talks with Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia. Correspondent Seth Doane talks with New Yorker magazine contributor Robin Wright about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's response to the Hamas attacks, and with former Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren about his hope for the future.

New York Times columnist David Brooks believes it's not naïve to trust in others, as he explains in his new book, "How to Know a Person." His aim, he tells CBS News' John Dickerson, is to help people divided by partisanship and social media better see and understand one another, and escape the isolation that is common in our culture. He also talks about Weave: The Social Fabric Project, a non-profit supporting those who work to weave together the social fabric in their communities.

In the early 20th century, an oil rush in the Osage Nation, located in Oklahoma, produced a torrent of oil revenues for the Native American tribe, making them the richest people per capita in the world. But their wealth invited greed, exploitation and murder on the part of white "guardians" who came to control the Osage's money, and would lead to the first major investigation by the FBI.
