Trump on troops
Leading the GOP field, presidential candidate Donald Trump has vowed to improve care for American veterans with a "whole new system," saying if VA hospitals aren't performing as they should, wounded warriors could be sent for private health care. Promising also to build a U.S. military so strong it could prevent conflict, Trump gave few details as to how he would accomplish the feats.
GOP debate
The Republican presidential candidates meet for their second debate tonight. Once again, Donald Trump will be front and center. But unlike the last debate in August, he's expected to be the number one target for his opponents as they square off at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California.
Border crush
Families with young children were forced to spend a cold night along a highway in Serbia, tantalizingly close to the next landmark on their quest for new lives in Western Europe, but they made it so far only to find they'd hit a dead end.
Bashar Assad
The Russian Ambassador to the United Nations has told CBS News that, in spite of public insistence to the contrary, the Obama administration actually believes Syria's dictator must remain in power to prevent the chaos in his country from spreading even faster.
Air safety
There are calls for Congress and the White House to make the skies safer. The government's own watchdog agency says a flaw in the nation's air traffic control system could result in planes flying too close together. We hear from one of the controllers sounding the alarm.
Hyperloop
Today in our "Pushing the Limits" series, we focus on plans for a new high-speed ground transportation system. Hyperloop Technologies is working on a project to move people and cargo at nearly the speed of sound. First on "CBS This Morning," the company is announcing who will come aboard as CEO.
Waiting game
Investors are girding for a possible move by the Fed on Thursday to hike interest rates for the first time in nine years, with markets expected to be rocky. Right now, the market seems to have slipped into a sort of stasis, but it could just be the calm before the storm.
College cash
The Obama administration is making it easier to apply for college financial aid with a rule change expected to benefit millions of families by giving them more time to make decisions about what may be a young person's biggest financial choice.
