State of the race

With just a day left in the 2016 presidential race, our new CBS News poll shows Hillary Clinton holding onto a narrow lead over rival Donald Trump across the country. Few voters now say their minds could change. We find out which subgroups in American society are backing which candidate, and who is more enthusiastic about their choice.

FBI and the emails

The latest FBI review of Hillary Clinton’s emails -- a batch found while investigating former Congressman Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of a top Clinton aide -- contained mostly duplicates and nothing to change the outcome of the original investigation, the FBI director has said, ruling out criminal charges. But his decision won’t stop the questions.

Midnight special

Donald Trump wrapped up his penultimate day on the campaign trail in a barn in Northern Virginia. His last minute push is indicative of a candidate desperately trying to cobble together a narrow path to 270 electoral votes as early voting shows other paths out of reach. Trump is the underdog in most of the states he visited, but he’ll need a surprise from at least one of them if he has any hope of claiming victory.

Election 101: Econ 101

Forget all the talk about emails and groping; as the country continues to recover from recession, surveys show the No. 1 issue for Americans is the economy. Less clear is how, with the U.S. still stuck in second gear, those concerns will play with voters at the ballot box. As the election comes down to the wire, we outline the key economic issues on which the outcome could hinge.

Florida long-game

As the race in Florida tightens, some voters have resolved to support Democrat Hillary Clinton in the presidential race and Republican Marco Rubio in his Senate re-election bid. While these split-ticket voters could help Clinton now, they have the potential to come back and haunt her four years down the road.

Janet Reno

The first woman to serve as U.S. attorney general has died. Janet Reno’s goddaughter said the 78-year-old trailblazer passed away early this morning from complications related to Parkinson’s disease. Public life brought its dark times but, looking back, Reno described her career in politics as “an activity of joy.”

Bridgegate

Gov. Chris Christie is defending his role in the “Bridgegate” scandal. In a revealing conversation, he tells Charlie Rose why the conviction of two former allies confirms what he’s been saying for years, and why he believes one person’s actions in the controversy were “abjectly stupid.”

Serial killer?

Investigators are looking for more bodies on the property of an alleged serial killer in South Carolina. Todd Kohlhepp is charged with killing four people more than a decade ago. He may be linked to a least three other murders.

Big pot

State by state, marijuana is on an undeniable path to legality, but the story doesn’t end there. What about sales and marketing? How should all the legal pot be sold and regulated? What kind of businesses will dominate? How will they change the product? How can anyone be sure the dream of legal weed won’t turn into a nightmare? CBSN has gone hunting for answers to these questions.
