New York manhunt
New evidence is helping the search for two escaped killers in New York. CBS News Correspondent Anna Werner has learned what the prisoners left behind in the cabin. And according to new reports, suspended prison guard Gene Palmer claims he did not know about alleged contraband he says fellow prison employee Joyce Mitchell asked him to get past a metal detector.
Back seat safety
A battle is underway over backseat auto safety. New concerns surfaced last month when Nobel Prize winner John Nash and his wife died in a taxi car crash on the New Jersey turnpike. They were both riding in the back and neither wore a seat belt. CBS News Correspondent Kris Van Cleave reports on examples of what experts call a deadly and mind-boggling mistake.
Baker's dozen
Better late than never, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is expected to jump into the 2016 presidential race today. A son of Indian immigrants, Jindal's heritage made him a rock star virtually overnight in a party that's struggled to project diversity. But that prominence hasn't always served him well. With 12 other Republicans competing for the 2016 nomination Jindal has his work cut out for him. Here are five things you should know about Bobby Jindal.
Baseball hack
Baseball isn't typically a place to go for lessons on cybersecurity. But this week, America's pastime taught us a little something we'd all do well to remember. While looking into a hack of the Houston Astros' internal database reported last week, FBI investigators focused on a group of employees from the St. Louis Cardinals' front office.
Status price
The Birkin bag, coveted as a status symbol and carried by the likes of Kim Kardashian, comes at a cost beyond its exorbitant price. Apart from the tens of thousands of dollars spent on the fashion accessory sold by French retailer Hermes, thousands of crocodiles and alligators are killed each year to supply the company with skins used to make some Birkins other high end accessories. Mistreatment of the animals ranges from packing them in overly close quarters to inhumane methods of slaughter, according to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which today released video shot by two undercover investigators documenting conditions.
Japan summer Olympics
The Japan summer Olympics are still five years away, but there is major controversy over the centerpiece of the games. The design for the new Tokyo stadium is expected to be finalized next week. Construction is set to begin October 1. Reports say it could cost more than $2 billion, which would make it the most expensive stadium ever built. CBS News Correspondent Seth Doane reports on how the bill is not the only big hurdle.
