With the notable exception of Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, the GOP's presidential candidates will participate Thursday night in one final debate before the Iowa caucuses, all seeking a big moment or breakout answer that could give them some valuable momentum before voting begins.

The debates have, both in this cycle and previous cycles, provided ambitious candidates an opportunity to steal the spotlight and boost their campaign - provided they turn in a good performance, that is.

Unfortunately for some candidates, it's not only the good answers that can affect the trajectory of the primary race - sometimes the unplanned gaffe turns out to be far more resonant than the well-rehearsed one-liner.
