Police say a woman has died three days after she and another woman were shot while driving on Interstate 394 in Minneapolis.

Staff at Hennepin Healthcare first reported the shooting on Sunday at about 10:40 p.m., with the victims telling police they drove to the hospital after realizing they had been shot.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara announced on Thursday that one of the victims died on Wednesday. The woman who survived has non-life threatening injuries, and her current condition is unknown.

O'Hara says the identity of the victim who died, and her exact cause of death, will be released at a later time by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.

"Two families have had their lives forever changed by gun violence. One of those families had hope that their loved one would recover, and experienced further tragedy when that hope was lost," O'Hara said. "Our investigators will not let her family lose the hope that whoever is responsible will be brought to justice."

No arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone with information on this case to email policetips@minneapolismn.gov, or leave a voicemail at 612-673-5845.
