Woman Feels Cleaned By Air Duct Cleaning Co.

By Liz Collin, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Like a lot of families this time of year, the Jensens hired a company to clean up the air in their home. Instead they say they paid hundreds of dollars for nothing to change.

It turns out the same air duct cleaning company has a history of complaints.

It all started with a long list to get their 9-month-old daughter, Alexa, ready for her first winter.  Duct cleaning became a must about a month ago. They hired a company called Air Duct Cleaning Pros after getting their coupon in the mail.

Instead of the $99 cleaning they quoted, Amie Jensen said she paid $680 for mold removal.

"Right away, he's like 'This is mold. You have mold in your house,'" she said.

Amie wasn't happy once she inspected their work and found dozens of complaints against the company online.

"That's when I started becoming really leery that they had taken advantage of me," Amie said.

COIT Cleaning is one of the oldest duct cleaning services in the Twin Cities. President David Wohl said it's important not to give in to high pressure sales.

"The low price offer is an incentive to get into the home," Wohl said. "I think the process should start before the company comes into the house."

Amie knows that now. After what she got her mail this week, she wanted to warn others.

Air Duct Cleaning Pros is now operating under a new name called Elite Air Ducts and Cleaning Services. The company is based in Illinois.

She's still trying to get her money back. Amie doesn't want another mother making that same winter list to make the same mistake.

"I don't want them to get away with money," she said.
