Unemployment Drops Slightly In April, But Jobs Still Being Cut

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – All signs are pointing to an economic recovery, but it's going slower than most economic experts were hoping. That's according to the jobs report released by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development on Thursday.

The state's unemployment rate dropped .2 percent in April to 5.6 percent. That's well below the nation's unemployment rate of 8.1 percent.

However, state employers cut 3,100 jobs last month. Officials said that 14,700 jobs have been gained since this time last year, representing a .6 percent growth.

Manufacturing led all areas of employment with 2,200 jobs last month.
