Spring Snowstorm Could Dump Up To A Foot On Southern Minn.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – An early spring snowstorm could dump up to a foot of snow on southern Minnesota Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the nearly two dozen counties in the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

WCCO Meteorologist Matt Brickman forecasts the snow to begin Wednesday morning in the southern part of the state.

"Still quiet during the morning commute, but as we get into midday the snow and rain mixture is lifting north of I-90 and tracking south of the Twin Cities," Brickman said.

The storm is expected to move into the Twin Cities by the evening commute.

The northern edge of the storm is forecasted to hit the heart of the metro, meaning northern Minnesota could miss seeing any snow at all while the southern metro could see up to 8 inches.

In addition to the heavy, wet snow, expect big gusts of wind. Wind gusts could reach 20 to 30 mph, and as the snow moves in winds will pick up even more.

Snow is expected to continue throughout Wednesday and into Thursday.
