CLOQUET, Minn. — Police in northern Minnesota say three people are dead, including the suspect, following a shooting Monday night at a Super 8 hotel.

UPDATE: Motive still unclear in Cloquet shooting that left suspect, 2 others dead

The Cloquet Police Department says it received a 911 call around 6:30 p.m. from an employee of the Super 8 who had found another employee who appeared to have been attacked.

Upon arrival, officers found a 22-year-old woman with a gunshot wound. She was transported to St. Luke's Hospital, where she died a short time later.

During the investigation, police say officers found a 35-year-old man dead, also from a gunshot wound, inside a car in the hotel's parking lot.

Cloquet police temporarily issued a shelter-in-place order during the incident before officers located the suspect, who was found dead outside the hotel's property from what police say appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The order was lifted around 8:30 p.m.

Police say that surveillance video from the Super 8 confirmed the suspect's identity.

St. Louis County Sheriff Wade Rauche says authorities do not know what caused the shooting.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will assist in the investigation.

The identities of the victims and the suspect will be released after their families are notified.

Cloquet police say they will release more information on the shooting on Wednesday.
