Popular Mpls. Night Club Karma Closes For Good

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A popular Minneapolis nightclub that has had several run-ins with police has closed its doors for good, Police Sgt. Bill Palmer confirmed on Saturday.

Karma night club, previously located at 315 First Avenue in the Warehouse District of downtown Minneapolis, shut its doors for good after its owner did not renew their liquor license in recent weeks. It is not known exactly when the club closed.

The club had been under severe scrutiny as of late after police were called there more than 150 times for disturbances. Incidents ranged from shootings to stabbings and altercations that started near the club and eventually spilled out into the streets of downtown Minneapolis.

The city of Minneapolis considered the club a "public nuisance" and encouraged that Karma be closed for at least 90 days back in June.

"Issues that were late at night on weekend nights that were giving the neighborhood a bad reputation are now gone.  We're happy for opportunity to show how safe the neighborhood is," said Joanne Kaufman, executive director of the Warehouse District Business Association

It is unclear at this time if the Karma's previous owner intends to revamp the space and reopen it as a different club or move on from the property altogether.
