Water main break floods Minneapolis neighborhood on Christmas

A water main break flooded a Minneapolis neighborhood on Christmas night.

City officials say firefighters were called around 6:45 p.m. Thursday to the area of West River Parkway and East 27th Street in the Seward neighborhood, just a few blocks north of East Lake Street.

Streets in the neighborhood were flooded with about 6 inches of water.

"Minneapolis Public Works crews worked through the night to pump water from the roadway, excavate the site, install shoring and replace a broken section of 12-inch water main," officials said.

Traffic was closed on the impacted streets for about six hours, with water service fully restored around 8 a.m., according to officials.

The extent of any damage to residences in the area is unclear. The city says it's offering support to property and business owners in the affected area.
