Lakeville, Bemidji Stars Sign With Gopher Women
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota women's basketball team has added two highly regarded in-state recruits.
Gophers coach Pam Borton announced Wednesday that Rachel Banham of Lakeville North High School and Kayla Hirt of Bemidji have signed national letters of intent to play next season.
Banham is a 5-foot-9 point guard who led the Panthers to a 32-0 record last season and a Class 4A state championship after scoring 25 points in the title game. Hirt is a 6-foot-2 forward who averaged 26 points and 14.1 rebounds per game last season. Both players were Associated Press first team all-state selections.
Hirt partially tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her knee this summer and will miss her senior season for the Lumberjacks.
