Supporters of Rep. Ilhan Omar hold rally in Minneapolis after feds search her home

People in Minneapolis rallied in support of Rep. Ilhan Omar on Monday afternoon, hours after federal agents searched her Washington, D.C., home.

A Facebook post from the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations billed the event as "Stand with Ilhan" and invited people to gather at Powderhorn Park Recreation Center, 3400 15th Ave. S. It listed the site as a new location but didn't say where the rally was first planned.

"What happened this morning is just wrong and people need to know, people in Washington and people here in the cities need to know, that we're out here, and we care and we're here just to make a statement," Greg Blair, who attended the rally, said.

Agents with Homeland Security Investigations searched Omar's home early Monday. Sources told CBS News the investigation centers on Omar's immigration paperwork, which dates to her childhood and was completed by her late father.

In a statement, the Justice Department confirmed that HSI executed a search warrant it secured and said the search was "part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation."

"What has happened to her is dangerous to our democracy," Sammy Loeks Davis, who attended the rally, said.

Other people at the event said they are planning to make their voices heard by voting in the midterms.

President Trump, who frequently targets Omar, told reporters on Monday that he "had nothing to do with" Monday's raid.

"I understand they're looking at her very carefully," Mr. Trump said. "I've always found her to be totally crooked personally, but that has nothing to do with me."

Omar's office said in a statement that she has "done nothing wrong." Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, posted on X that the search is "an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement."

"I will not be silenced," she wrote.

Omar on Monday began to fundraise off the raid. She is up for reelection in three weeks. The district she represents is heavily Democratic and she is heavily favored to win.
