Good Question: U2, Car Thermometers And Wrinkly Hands
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – It's been a very busy week for good questions with the end of the state government shutdown and the extreme heat rolling into the Twin Cities.
In Friday night's "Reply All," WCCO-TV's Jason DeRusha tackled questions about Saturday's U2 concert, pruny fingers and what television talent wears for the news.
With the U2 concert at TCF Bank Stadium Saturday night, Colby from St. Paul asked "What happens to 'The Claw' after the tour?
There are actually three different stage, each one about 29,000 square feet and all steel. U2's manager wants to recycle them, but the plan right now is to take them when the tour is over and sell them as a ready-made amphitheater.
A lot of us are spending time at the pool with all this heat around the metro. Jordan from Blaine asked, "Why do our hands get wrinkled when they're soaked?"
DeRusha soaked his hands in water for a good 20 minutes on Friday, and had no wrinkles.
He has an abundance of sebum, which is an oil that essentially makes the skin waterproof. When you spend a lot of time in the water, shower or bath, you was away that sebum so it allows the water to get into the skin.
A lot of people spend time looking at the temperature gauge in their car when the weather gets extremely hot or cold. Jill from Brooklyn Park asked, "Where is the thermometer in our cars?"
DeRusha found out the car thermometer sensor is usually right behind the front bumper. It keeps it in the shade, which helps in getting an accurate temperature reading. Sometimes gauges can run warm because the pavement underneath gets so hot that it can radiate right up towards the sensor.
Lori from Deer River asked, "Why do the news anchors often wear the same colors?"
In one shot, WCCO-TV anchors Frank Vascellaro, Amelia Santaniello and Mark Rosen are all wearing tan colors. The reality is anchors don't have anyone picking out their clothes, they choose their own wardrobe. A lot of people think Amelia is the big clothes person in the anchor family, but the truth is Frank picks out all her outfits.
