Report: 40 Percent Of State's Water Bodies Polluted
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A new report finds 40 percent of Minnesota's water bodies are polluted.
This year, new evidence of pollution put another 318 lakes, rivers and streams across Minnesota on the list. Now, there are a total of 4,600 impairments across the state.
Water bodies with impairments mean that water quality standards weren't met. Some of these impairments include too much harmful bacteria, phosphorous and mercury. The number of impairments has gone up in the last 10 years because it can take a long time to get rid of them.
This year, only two lakes are being considered for getting taken off this list.
