Sports Agenda For Tuesday (6/14/11) No Mas Heat Edition

Big Story:
Well, the Marlins continue to sink faster than Governor Rick Scott's poll numbers. The Fish lost again last night to the Diamondbacks and just so you're up to date, the Marlins have won exactly one game in the month of June.
Plus, the Heat may be looking at a center soon; and there may be BIG news on the NFL labor front!
Let's bang this agenda like Lars Ulrich does a drum.

Marlins: (@Philadelphia Phillies, 7:05 p.m., Fox Sports Florida)
The Marlins ended their 11-game home stand Monday night with another loss. They went 1-10 during that home stand and now they head to Philadelphia for 4 games and that's not a recipe for good things to happen.
If there was a positive last night, it was the Marlins bats finally came alive.
Omar Infante went 2-4 and Bonifacio went 3-6 in the game. Mike Stanton also had 2 hits and 2 RBI's in the losing effort. But, the Fish keep leaving people on base, last night they left 22 on base in the game.
Plus, the Marlins starting pitching has collapsed like a buffet in front of Kirstie Alley.
Rickey Nolasco gave up 9 runs on 8 hits in just 3 innings pitched. Burke Badenhop came in and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits. Of course the next 4 pitchers gave up no runs and just 2 hits, so at least the bullpen is holding its own.
Now, the Fish head to Philly to try and stop the bleeding, which is like expecting more than 2,000 people at a Marlins game.
Chris Volstad will go first against Cole Hamels. Hamels pitched 8 scoreless innings in his last outing and Volstad gave up 3 runs in 6.2 innings in his last start. Volstad is 0-3 in his last three starts with a 5.82 ERA. Hamels is 2-0 with a 1.17 ERA in his last 3 games.
On the bright side, when the Phillies toss out Roy Halladay, the Marlins will have Anibal Sanchez to go against him. So at least they've got that going for them.

Heat Update:
Yeah, I just can't let go of the Heat.
But, there's a growing feeling the Heat are going to target Samuel Dalembert to be the team's starting center.
He's not a 20/10 guy, but he's solid, will give you about 8 points and 8 boards a game, and will keep you in the game against the NBA's big men.
He would have to take a big pay cut from his $13.5 million salary last season, but he's Haitian, is in his 8th season, and could be a key cog in the wheel of the Miami heat.
Plus, lining him up would allow the team to focus all their efforts on a point guard besides Mario Chalmers.
Of course, Dalembert will be in high demand. If he wants money, he's going elsewhere. If he wants to win a title, he could be Miami-bound.

NFL Update:
Finally, something positive to write about.
Now, don't get too excited, but the league has sent a memo to all teams advising them to be prepared to stay overnight during next Tuesday's NFL meetings in Chicago.
Unless the NFL just really likes sleepovers, this could be the time when the owners are set to vote on a new CBA.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but that's the only reason I can come up with to make the owners stay together overnight for meetings.
It's possible the lockout will continue, but neither side wants that.
Both sides could lose tens of millions of dollars with each missed preseason game and even more depending on what the 8th Circuit would rule to hurt both sides.
There has been significant movement in the thawing of the relationship between the NFL and the NFLPA, so we'll see what happens.
I just don't see this thing lasting past the first week of July. Too much money is at stake.
