Sports Agenda for Friday (3/2/12)
Big Story:
Can we just start the NBA playoffs right now, because there's no team in the NBA better than the Heat. Conversely, the Panthers…yeah, they…ummm…yeah. And why Knicks fans and players are insane in the membrane.
First, thoughts and prayers are with Chris Bosh and his family after he lost his grandmother yesterday.
Lyric of the day:
"I hate your guts….I wish that you was dead….I hate your guts…You're damn right that's what I said….I hate your guts….And I wish that you was dead….I'd dig the hole myself…But I'd rather run ya over with my truck instead."
Heat: (@ Utah Jazz, 9:00 p.m., Sun Sports)
The Heat, yeah, I'm running out of ways to describe how good they are right now.
I mean it's just ridunkulous how well they are playing the game of basketball.
And they're doing it all effortlessly.
Take last night's game.
They let Portland race out to a first quarter that the Trail Blazers couldn't have played any better.
No problem.
Turn on the defense, run them off the court, double-digit victory.
LeBron goes for 38 and D-Wade goes for 36.
Not only that, but the Heat are doing it with essentially a ten man rotation, when Bosh is with the team.
Seriously, um, I'm trying to come up with something to critique, but I'm coming up short.
Well, the team did shoot under 50 percent, so they've got to work on that I guess.
The assists to turnovers ratio for the team last night? 22-9.
Yikes, that's really impressive.
And you outrebounded Portland, 41-36.
UD, my Windex man, cause he gets everything off the glass, had 14 boards in the game.
We just need to work on his shot a little. I think he's releasing it on the way down instead of at the top of his jump.
Other than that, he's a monster.
By the way, your NBA MVP….Mr. LeBron James. Book it. Done.
Panthers: (off Friday, home vs. Nashville and Ottawa on Saturday and Sunday)
Well from the best game you could possibly play last night to the worst game.
I don't want to say the Panthers stunk up the ice, but dadgum.
The Jets beat them by a touchdown!
Seriously, when you're an NHL team and you get skunked that bad, it has to hurt your pride.
Giving up 5 goals in one period?
The Panthers had only given up 5 goals in their last two games!
It reminded me of last month's Ottawa game during the midst of a losing streak.
Now the Cats have to come home and try to snap back before this thing gets out of hand in a hurry.
On the bright side, Winnipeg is only 2 points behind the Cats in the southeast division.
On the bad side, if the Panthers play like they did last night, yeah, they don't deserve to be in the playoffs.
Seriously, that was uglier than a baby from Snooki.
It was uglier than that alien that popped out of the guy's stomach in Spaceballs….but not nearly as talented.
Sports question of the day:
Yesterday I was presented with a conundrum.
We got word that Chris Bosh was going to miss the next two games with the Heat due to personal reasons.
The Heat told us it was because of his grandmother passing.
I didn't necessarily think it was the right thing to do to put it into the story…so I went with what the Heat said officially which was personal reasons.
Actually, I changed it to a family matter, but still.
So then a writer for the Sun-Sentinel hit it up on Twitter saying exactly what it was and then everyone started in.
I changed it after this, but I'm still not sure if it was right.
That was a conundrum without a good answer.
But such is life in a 21st century newsroom.
