The spill, which was first detected Saturday, happened in federal waters at the offshore Elly Platform, about nine miles off the coast. It belongs to Amplify Energy Corporation. The rig was built in 1980 and processes crude oil from two other platforms.
DJ Peter Moses Gutierrez Jr. claims that he is losing and will continue to lose a substantial amount of his business due to the beach closure and other consequences of the spill. He also claims he has been, or will be, exposed to toxic oil contaminants.
Officials reported that anyone exposed to the oil could potentially have contaminants absorbed through their skin.
