There was no immediate indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, police said.
The woman, who has not been identified by authorities, was driving northbound on Laurel Canyon Boulevard at Sherman Way when the vehicle she was driving struck the trailer just before 2 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations division.
The crash occurred a little after 6 a.m. on the eastbound side of the freeway, at the Grand Avenue off-ramp.
When CHP arrived to the scene, first responders discovered a vehicle wrapped around a pole. Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters pronounced the two occupants of the car deceased at the scene.
The death was reported around 4:15 p.m. The person was found on the southbound 57 freeway ay Katella Avenue.
A woman was driving eastbound on the westbound side of the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The southbound lanes of the 5 freeway were shut down.
Authorities have identified the woman killed when a vehicle slammed into the side of a home Saturday morning as 38-year-old Jaycie Martinez. They suspect that the driver, who was drunk at the time of the incident, was traveling up to 100 miles per hour.
LA County Supervisors will consider a $10,000 reward for information in the crash that killed Jose Gonzalez and his 3-year-old daughter, Samantha. Rachel Kim reports.

A group of students stopped to light a candle in front of a sign that said, "Rest Easy Angel" over an apparent nickname for Jaylon Connish, who was identified by authorities as the teen killed in the Saturday night crash off the 5 Freeway.
The teen was identified as 16-year-old Tristen King. Authorities disclosed that he was speeding at the time of the crash.
The crash occurred after midnight Friday morning on the Valley Boulevard off-ramp of the 710 Freeway.
One of the vehicles involved flipped several times before slamming into the center divider and the pole holding up the sign spanning all lanes of the eastbound side.
