There was no immediate indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, police said.
The woman, who has not been identified by authorities, was driving northbound on Laurel Canyon Boulevard at Sherman Way when the vehicle she was driving struck the trailer just before 2 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations division.
The crash occurred a little after 6 a.m. on the eastbound side of the freeway, at the Grand Avenue off-ramp.
When CHP arrived to the scene, first responders discovered a vehicle wrapped around a pole. Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters pronounced the two occupants of the car deceased at the scene.
The death was reported around 4:15 p.m. The person was found on the southbound 57 freeway ay Katella Avenue.
A woman was driving eastbound on the westbound side of the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The southbound lanes of the 5 freeway were shut down.
Authorities have identified the woman killed when a vehicle slammed into the side of a home Saturday morning as 38-year-old Jaycie Martinez. They suspect that the driver, who was drunk at the time of the incident, was traveling up to 100 miles per hour.
