"Here and now, I give you my word: If you entrust me with the presidency, I will draw on the best of us, not the worst," Biden said.
Those endorsing Biden include former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, former CIA and National Security Agency Director Michael Hayden and former Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte.
Since 1972, Biden has only missed one Democratic National Convention.
The Democratic vice presidential candidate contrasted Joe Biden and President Trump in her speech at the Democratic convention.
"I pledge to you that we will act boldly and deal with our challenges honestly. We will speak truths," Harris said.
