George Springer, Jose Altuve and Martín Maldonado homered to lead the Astros to a 6-3 victory Tuesday night before manager A.J. Hinch announced the impending moves.
The Astros jumped on Detroit starter Edwin Jackson (3-6) for four runs in the first inning to go on top 4-1. They led by 3 when Detroit's Ronny Rodriguez hit a solo homer in the sixth before Travis Demeritte added one in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-4.
"All I was really thinking was how cold the Gatorade bath was going to be," he said. "I couldn't wait to get to the plate, but they really got me."
Miguel Cabrera had three hits and scored twice to help the Tigers to a 10-6 victory over the Chicago White Sox and a split of their doubleheader Tuesday.
JaCoby Jones homered and tripled for Detroit, which has lost 10 of 12 and gone 10-34 since June 1. The Tigers are last in the majors with 3.59 runs per game while the White Sox (4.12) are 28th.
Detroit right-hander Jordan Zimmermann permitted four runs and six hits in six innings. He was trying to win for the second straight time after going 0-8 in his first 13 starts of the season.

The Detroit Tigers earned their first series win in two months despite having two of their clubhouse leaders traded before Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels.
Matt Thaiss homered and drove in three runs while Griffin Canning threw four-hit ball over six innings as the Angels put together a good game in what has been a disappointing homestand against two of the worst teams in the American League.

Bauer struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings, José Ramírez hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth and the Indians beat the Detroit Tigers for the 11th straight time, 6-3.
Clevinger matched his career high with 12 strikeouts and 100 pitches over six innings, as the Cleveland Indians continued their dominance of the Detroit Tigers with a 7-2 win on Wednesday night.
"After losing the first two games, obviously that put a lot of pressure on us," Mercado said. "Winning that game yesterday was absolutely huge. Going into this series, you take the first game and you definitely get back on track."
Jordan Zimmermann wasn't much better for Detroit. He allowed seven runs on eight hits before he was pulled after facing four batters in the fifth inning. He still hasn't won since last Sept. 5.

The Tigers' bullpen wasted a brilliant effort from Spencer Turnbull. He scattered four hits and two walks with five strikeouts over six innings. It was only the third time in 14 starts that Turnbull had not allowed a run.
Nelson Cruz homered for the fourth straight game and the Twins connected four times in all to rout the Detroit Tigers 12-2.
