The Detroit Lions have drafted guard Laken Tomlinson of Duke in the first round Thursday night after trading down from the No. 23 pick to No. 28 in a deal with Denver.
The Lions moved from 23rd to 28th and received veteran offensive lineman Manny Ramirez, a 2015 fifth-round pick and a 2016 fifth-round pick.
"One thing that I've learned about this process is it's very unpredictable. You don't know what's going to happen, so you've got to prepare for everything. We'll be ready for every alternative."
Lions fans averaged 4.2 mistakes per 100 words, about four times better than Washington Redskins fans, who ranked last in the NFL.
This years first round pick and draft overall is even more important as Detroit comes off just their third playoff appearance since 1999.
"I think we have been, since 2011, more cautious in terms of our sources and the people that we're talking to," Mayhew said Friday.
"We're letting him get comfortable and get situated," general manager Martin Mayhew said, "and at some point we'll start that dialogue."

The Lions took Reiff in the first round of the 2012 draft. He played 16 games in 2012, 16 games in 2013 and 15 games in 2014.
Ihedigbo, a starter last year and a Pro Bowl alternate, will make a base salary of $1.1 million.
"We've had some dialogue with him," Mayhew said. "I think it's ongoing at this point."
"He's got to make a decision for him and his family," safety Glover Quin said. "It is what it is."
After the NFL released the 2015 schedule, Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin did just what many Detroit fans and media members did.
"What Martin [Mayhew] told Rodney directly, and to me, was, 'Go get this fixed, and then we'll take a look,'" agent Mark Magazu said.
