The ruling means 40 million Americans who stood to have thousands of dollars in debt wiped away will now have to pay up.
Federal loan payments have been on hold since the start of the pandemic, but now borrowers will have to resume payments. CBS 2's Charlie De Mar reports.

Borrowers are now facing double whammy after high court rules against Biden administration's student loan forgiveness program.
A sharply divided Supreme Court ruled in a 6-3 decision that the Biden administration overstepped its authority in trying to cancel or reduce student loans. This leaves borrowers on the hook for payments that are expected to resume in October. CBS 2's Marissa Perlman reports.

Students, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote, must be evaluated based on their experiences "as an individual — not on the basis of race."
The official also said the Supreme Court decision leaves upcoming high school seniors with a lot of questions.
CBS 2's Tara Molina connected with local organizations, and reached schools across the state, to find out.
The high court on Wednesday denied an emergency request from people challenging the law, which bans so-called assault weapons.
The decision from the Supreme Court blocks lower court orders that would have restricted the availability of the abortion pill mifepristone nationwide.
The ruling preserves access to the drug and reinstates a number of steps by the agency that made it easier to obtain while legal proceedings continue.
Democrats said the findings underscore the need for a written code of conduct for Supreme Court justices, who are not covered by binding ethics rules.
This comes after three property owners in the town of porter claimed their deeds showed they owned a private beach area, and the government took it from them without compensation.
There were no noted dissents.
