Police say the unidentified victim was arguing with another man who then fired shots.
Such problems make it harder for firefighters to access water on higher floors.
CBS 2’s Sabrina Franza dug into city records and found violations cited for each of the three high-rises where fires broke out.
The event was packed, and the truth is – nobody learned too much about the city's plan for the respite stop for migrants at the old South Shore High School, 7626 S. Constance Ave.
Late Thursday, some big questions were emerging over the lack of smoke alarms going off.
Some residents also said they were not surprised that the condo building recently failed an inspection with regard to the fire alarm and communication systems. CBS 2's Charlie De Mar reports.
Community members said the city has put very little thought into the move, calling it an "intrusion into daily life" in South Shore. CBS 2's Marissa Perlman reports.
"While this may constitute an emergency for the city of Chicago, it does not constitute an emergency for the South Shore community," said Ald. Michelle Harris (8th).
We also found violations for issues involving heating – in December of last year, and again in February.

A shuttered South Shore High School could soon become the next stop for some of the migrants landing in Chicago. On Thursday evening, Chicago city officials met with community members, some who say "not in my neighborhood."

Fire crews responded to a high-rise fire in the South Shore neighborhood Thursday morning.
There will be a community meeting Thursday evening at the former South Shore High School building at 6 p.m.
The school will be used as a temporary place for migrants to stay, to alleviate the needs at local police stations where many migrants have been stuck for days.
CPD says in each incident, the victim legally parked their car on the street and returned to find their vehicle missing.
At least 100 evidence markers for shell casings were seen on the ground.
The women took cover in a car behind an alley, police said.
They say the victim, a 26-year-old man, was entering his car when an unknown man on foot opened fire.
Anthony Anderson, 57, was arrested by members of the Homicide Investigation Support Team on Wednesday, in the 7200 block of South South Shore Drive.
Chicago police is issuing a warning to South Shore residents after four homes were burglarized this month.
Police say the victims were shot in a restaurant at 72nd Street and Exchange Avenue, where the windows were riddled with bullet holes.
