"We're here to stay. We're going to continue to fight. We want our church back. We want the fabric of this community to stay as is," parishioner Judy Vazquez said.
"Some people come in the morning. Some people come in the night. Some people in the evening and we are protecting our church."
"They still said the mural had to be brought down, painted over, boarded up," said owner Janette Garza.
The operators of a Chicago small business said they were essentially forced to shut their doors over the weekend – all due to a colorful mural. CBS 2's Charlie De Mar reports.
The company is seeking state and city approvals to keep operating.
They met at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 2172 W. 22nd Pl., to demand that nearby Sims Metal Management – a scrap metal shredding company – either clean up their operations or move out.
"You just gotta follow the passion and you gotta be tough," café owner Hector Aguille said.
