3 killed, 19 wounded in shootings during Thanksgiving weekend in Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) — At least three people were killed and 19 people were hurt in shootings across Chicago during Thanksgiving weekend, according to police.

The ages of the victims range from 15 to 62.

Shootings From Wednesday

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 62-year-old woman was shot just after 8 p.m. while driving in the 6100 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue.

Police said she was traveling southbound when shots were fired. She was hit in the back and taken by fire crews to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.

Shootings from Thursday

  • At 12:49 a.m. in the 100 block of West 57th Street, a 51-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk when shots were fired. The victim walked into St. Bernard Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left arm.
  • At 1:59 a.m. in the 5500 block of South Ada, two men, 23 and 26, and a woman, 23, were in an alley when shots were fired. The 23-year-old man was taken by fire crews in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center with multiple shots to the body. The woman walked into St. Bernard Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left leg. The 26-year-old man also walked into St. Bernard's in good condition with gunshot wounds to the legs. 
  • At 1:20 a.m. in the 800 block of East 79th Street, a 27-year-old man was walking towards his vehicle when two unknown people began firing in his direction. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition with a graze wound to the right calf. 
  • At 3:21 p.m., a 62-year-old man was struck by gunfire through the window of his home in the 4000 block of West Monroe Street in West Garfield Park. He was shot in the head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, and later died. A man has been arrested and charged in the case.
  • At 10:30 p.m. in the 5600 block of West Harrison Street, a 22-year-old man was on a sidewalk when an unknown person began shooting at him. The victim tried to take cover but realized he was shot in the left arm. He was taken to Rush Hospital in good condition. 

Shootings from Friday

  • At 1 a.m. in the 7000 block of South Eberhart Avenue, a 35-year-old woman was involved in an altercation on the sidewalk with a 37-year-old woman that turned into a fight. The 37-year-old shot the 35-year-old in the left leg and twice in the right leg. The victim was treated and taken by fire crews to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where in fair condition. The shooter was taken into custody, and a firearm was recovered at the scene. Charges are pending.
  • At 2:19 a.m. in the 2800 block of West Polk Street, a 17-year-old boy was standing in the street when a black vehicle pulled alongside, and someone from inside shot towards the victim. He was hit multiple times in the body and taken to UIC Hospital, where he died.
  • At 8:19 a.m. in the 5400 block of West Washington Boulevard, a 25-year-old man was sitting in a parked vehicle when two people approached the victim, pulled out firearms, and fired shots at the victim. The victim self-transported to Loretta Hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. 
  • At 2:20 p.m. in the 5900 block of South Sangamon Street, a 15-year-old boy was standing near the sidewalk when someone shot him in the chest. The victim was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.
  • At 5:10 p.m. in the first block of North Leclaire Avenue, a 37-year-old man was near the sidewalk when someone shot him in the back, foot, and arm. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.
  • At 8:40 p.m. in the 4500 block of South LaPorte Avenue, a 50-year-old man was standing in the alley when a gunman walked up and shot him before fleeing in a dark-colored sedan. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.
  • At 9:50 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Western Avenue, a man, 33, and a woman, 30, were standing on the sidewalk when an unknown male fired shots.  The man was shot multiple times in his body and was taken to Christ Hospital, where he died. The woman was also hit multiple times and was in serious condition. 

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 1:48 a.m. in the 2800 block of West Columbus Avenue, two men, 18 and 23, were outside when they were shot at by an unknown person traveling in a black SUV. The 23-year-old was shot in the shoulder, and the 18-year-old was hit in the shoulder and behind the ear. Both victims were taken to Christ Hospital in good condition.
  • At 2:55 a.m. in the 300 block of West 58th Street, officers responded to a person shot and found a 40-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the eye. The victim was uncooperative with details and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.  
  • At 4:16 a.m. in the 300 block of North Cicero Avenue, a 51-year-old woman was traveling as a passenger in a vehicle when she was shot twice in her shoulder and once in the hand. The driver took her to Mt. Sinai in fair condition
  • At 7:59 p.m., a 15-year-old boy was sitting in a parked car in the 2900 block of West Fulton Street in East Garfield Park when he heard multiple shots and felt pain. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body, and was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in fair condition.
  • At 8:47 p.m., a 46-year-old man was traveling as a passenger in a vehicle in the 800 block of South Francisco Avenue in the East Garfield Park neighborhood when he heard shots and felt pain. He was shot once in the buttocks and groin and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition.

Unless otherwise noted, there were no arrests in either incident.
