3 dead, 16 hurt in Chicago weekend shootings, according to police

CHICAGO (CBS) — At least three people are dead and 16 others are hurt following shootings across Chicago as of Monday morning. The ages of the victims range from 12 to 42.

Shootings from Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 30-year-old man was traveling in a vehicle in the 4300 block of South King Drive just before 8 p.m. when an unknown vehicle pulled up alongside. Someone inside the vehicle pulled out a firearm and fired shots at the victim.

The victim was hit multiple times in his body and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. 

Later in the evening, just before 11 p.m., officers responded to a call of a person shot at an apartment in the 5800 block of North Kenmore Avenue in the Edgewater neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers found two people with gunshot wounds. A 25-year-old was shot in the chest, and a woman of unknown age was shot in the chin.

Both were treated by fire officials and taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition. A firearm was recovered on the scene.

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 1:10 a.m. in the 1600 block of East 85th Place, a 30-year-old man was driving a silver sedan when he was arguing with another man driving a gray sedan. The altercation turned into a fight, and the gray sedan driver fired gunshots at the victim's vehicle as he drove past him. The victim suffered a gunshot graze wound to the shoulder. He refused medical treatment. The offender drove off and is not in custody.
  • At midnight in the 5900 block of South Ashland Avenue, a 39-year-old woman was driving northbound in a vehicle when someone in a dark-colored sedan driving southbound fired gunshots at the victim's vehicle and continued driving. The woman was hit in the left leg and self-transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
  •  At 2:53 a.m. in the 6600 block of South Champlain Avenue, officers responded to a call of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers were met by a 42-year-old woman who had two gunshot wounds to the left arm. She directed officers to an apartment, where they found an unresponsive 38-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest. Fire crews treated the man and took him to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died. The woman was also taken to the medical center in good condition. A firearm was recovered on the scene. 
  • At 1:53 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Damen Avenue, a 17-year-old boy was in an alley when an unknown vehicle pulled up, and someone from inside fired shots at him. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition with multiple shots to the body. 
  • At 7:20 p.m. in the 13100 block of South Ellis Avenue, a man and a boy were walking on the sidewalk when they saw two large groups of unknown people shooting at each other. The victims related they were caught in the crossfire. The man, 20, was shot in his left arm and to the stomach. He self-transported to Roseland Hospital in good condition. The boy, 14, was shot in the left ring finger. He was also self-transported to a local hospital in good condition.     
  • At 9:07 p.m. in the 2600 block of West 55th Street, a 23-year-old man was driving in a vehicle when someone in an unknown black SUV fired gunshots, striking the victim in the left eye, and then drove away. The victim was treated by fire crews and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in fair condition. 
  • At 10 p.m. in the 4400 block of West Fulton Street, officers responded to West Suburban Hospital for a call of a person shot. Upon their arrival, they learned that a 26-year-old man had been shot one time in the abdomen. The victim was unable to speak with officers at the time of the report.

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 1:32 a.m. in the 10900 block of South Princeton Avenue, a 38-year-old man was in a parked vehicle when two masked offenders approached and began shooting in his direction. The victim was grazed on the top of his head. He was treated by CFD and taken to Christ Hospital in good condition.
  • At 2:05 a.m. in the 400 block of West 24th Street, a 35-year-old man was involved in a fight with several unknown people. The offenders left the fight, but one of them retrieved a handgun and fired gunshots, striking the victim in the rear. Responding officers were able to place an offender in custody. The victim was treated by fire officials and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. Charges are pending.
  • At 4:18 a.m. in the 900 block of North Lavergne, a man and woman, 25, were in the hallway of an apartment when an unknown person began shooting. The woman was hit twice in the left leg. She was treated by CFD and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in fair condition. The man suffered a graze wound to the left elbow, and he refused medical services.
  • At 5:23 a.m. in the 1800 block of East 79th Street, officers responded to a call of a person shot and discovered an unresponsive 29-year-old woman with a gunshot wound in the chest. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition and later died. 
  • At 11:46 a.m. in the 7500 block of South Sangamon Street, an argument between a 32-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man turned into a fight when the offender produced a firearm and shot the victim. The victim sustained a gunshot wound in the thigh and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition. Police said the incident seemed domestic in nature.
  • At 8:29 p.m. in the 9200 block of South Harper Avenue, officers responded to the scene where preliminary investigations indicated that a 12-year-old girl was hit by gunfire inside a residence. She was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where she died.

Unless otherwise noted, no one is in custody in either incident.
