Springfield School Changes Name To 'Tom Brady Middle School' For Patriots Opener
BOSTON (CBS) -- Students at the Forest Park Middle School in Springfield were very much in the football spirit on Thursday.
That's because for one day, the same day the New England Patriots kick off the 2015 NFL season, the school went by a different name. On Thursday, it went by "Tom Brady Middle School."
Students and staff were dressed in their Patriots gear, many in Brady jerseys, or other red, white and blue clothing. Those who answered the phone in the office told those calling they had reached "Tom Brady Middle School."
An assembly was held in the morning to celebrate the one-day renaming of the school, an idea that students and Principal Tom Mazza came up with.
"They wanted to do something creative and fun," Mazza told MassLive.com.
Brady has been receiving plenty of love from Patriots fans in New England all summer, as they showed their support for the Super Bowl MVP throughout the whole DeflateGate controversy. Brady's four-game suspension by the league was recently thrown out in federal court, making the quarterback eligible to play in Thursday night's NFL season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Gillette Stadium.
It's just a shame the game is so late on a school night, with kickoff set for 8:30pm. Maybe Friday they'll rename the school "Tired Because We Stayed Up And Watched Tom Brady Middle School."
