Police are investigating after they say a "tiny dog" was tied to the train tracks near a casino in Everett, Massachusetts on Tuesday.

According to an Everett Animal Control Facebook post, the dog was found by two Encore Boston Harbor employees "in an isolated area of the Commuter Rail Train Tracks" behind the casino.

"There was a visible leash that appeared to be chewed off that was attached to a set of train tracks that the dog was staying close to," animal control said.

The Everett Fire Department helped animal control get to the area to try to save the dog.

The Commuter Rail's Newburyport/Rockport line runs behind the casino. Everett police dispatch tracked train arrival times so an animal control officer could get to the dog "after an extended period of time" and bring it to safety in a fire truck.

Animal control shared a picture of the little white dog in an officer's arms. They're asking anyone who might have seen something suspicious or who knows how the dog ended up by the tracks to call police at 617-387-1212 and ask for Animal Control Officer Stacia Gorgone. She can also be reached by email at Stacia.gorgone@cityofeverett.org
