Worcester DA investigates fatal shooting involving police in Boylston

The Worcester District Attorney confirms they are investigating a fatal shooting that involved police officers in the town of Boylston Wednesday morning.

Police say at this time there is no threat to the public, but they are not releasing further details. There was a heavy police presence throughout the day on Central Street, where the road was blocked off and residents were being asked to stay away from the area.

"It's pretty crazy, being in Boylston it's pretty quiet so you don't usually expect stuff like that," said resident Alex Peckham.

Police looking for armed and dangerous man

State Police reported being called to the scene for shots fired, while Boylston Police posted they were looking for a man who fled on foot, described as armed and dangerous.

It was unsettling for nearby deli owner Lyn Ciunci. "At first I was thinking should I just lock up and close," Ciunci said. "All I need is someone coming in here."

But there was a follow-up post that while the scene remained active there was no active threat or danger to the public.

Neighbors concerned about safety

Given the heavily wooded and remote area neighbors had questions about what was unfolding. "Obviously there are safety concerns for everyone around. There's a lot of woods, you don't know where they could be. They could be in your backyard or your front yard," said Peckham.

For now, access to the area is limited and the DA says there won't be any further information until the investigation is complete saying it is now only in the early stages.

"Everyone is wondering what's going on, we'll find out later I guess," said Ciunci. "They're not letting out any information."
