It's barely snowed in Boston for the sixth March in a row. What will April bring?
March was a very mild month in Massachusetts, the first above-average month since last November.
Boston will finish out the month right around 4 degrees above the average, good enough to make the top 15 warmest on record.
March 2025 will go in the books with near average precipitation, the heaviest rain fell on St. Patrick's day.
Just a trace of snow in Boston for March
This was the sixth consecutive March with well-below-average snowfall. We recorded just a trace on snow (last Friday) in Boston.
This ties Boston with nine other years for the least snowiest March on record.
Assuming we don't receive any more snow in April, the 2024-2025 snowfall season will go in the books as the third in a row with well-below-average snowfall in both Boston and Worcester.
Boston is currently more than 19" below seasonal averages and Worcester is more than 3 feet below.
April weather outlook
Turning the page to April: Any significant snow is quite unusual this month. We haven't had an inch or more in Boston in April in seven years.
Temperature averages go from the low 50s to start the month up to the low 60s by the finish.
We continue to gain lots of daylight, well over an hour in the next 30 days.
You will certainly start to notice some flowers blooming, but it is still a bit too early for home gardening. Typically, the final frosts come in early May in the suburbs.
April Fools' Day storm
Last but not least ... perhaps some of you remember what occurred 28 years ago on this date? The infamous April Fools' Day storm.
This still stands as the 4th biggest snowstorm in Boston's recorded history with 25.4" of heavy, wet snow.
Just goes to show, crazy things can happen in New England in April.
And looking at the chilly, long range temperature outlook (mostly for next week), you never know ...
