City Worker Helps Police Catch Accused Hit & Run Driver

BOSTON (CBS) - A driver accused in a hit and run faced a judge on Tuesday after Boston Police say an alert city worker helped catch him.

Prosecutors say Joseph Morrison hit three cars, ran into the same woman twice, and fled the scene.

Prosecutors say the 28-year-old was driving his car in the area of Ellington St. and Blue Hill Ave. when he allegedly rear ended another car.

When the female driver of that car emerged to exchange papers, police say Morrison hit her with his car and fled, she suffered injuries to her wrist and leg.

Prosecutors say a city of Boston worker pursued Morrison and helped Boston Police place him under arrest.

Morrison's attorney told the judge he suffered a panic attack. She said the defendant has a job at Home Depot and is not a flight risk.

The judge set bail at $5500.

Morrison's fiancée of eight years, the mother of his six-year-old daughter, says this is out of character.

"He's a good guy and the father of my daughter and I know he wouldn't do anything to harm anybody," Lawanda Jarrett says.

Jarrett says Morrison takes pills for anxiety.

In 2006, Morrison served 18 months in prison back for possessing a firearm.

The charges he faces now include leaving the scene of an accident causing personal injury and driving to endanger.
