Boston Area Movie Theaters With More

It's another Saturday night and you want to see the latest box office blockbuster filled with action, explosions and impeccably timed one-liners. However, the prospect of paying sky-high ticket prices and wading through crowds at your local multiplex does not sound too appealing.

Fear not filmgoers; we are here to go the extra mile and give you a few alternatives with movie theaters and more! - Seth Szilagyi

Mendon Drive In

Mendon Twin Drive-In

35 Milford Street
Mendon, MA 01756

It was once a staple of middle-America, but the drive-in theater has become a dying breed over the past three decades. So, when you have a chance to partake in this unique film experience so close to home, I would not pass up the opportunity. For just $25 a car, you can see not one, but two movies back-to-back. Plus, the Mendon Twin offers an interesting, if not nostalgic snack shack. It has the feel of a 1950's soda shop and offers a wide-variety of tasty treats, including root beer floats, cotton candy and, if you're in the mood, Mexican.

Dip In Theater

Dip-In Theater At Coco Key Water Resort

Crowne Plaza Boston North Shore
50 Ferncroft Road
Danvers, MA 01923

Let the kids splish and splash to their favorite flick at one of the largest indoor water parks in the area. Coco Key gives your little ones the chance to have fun in a wading pool any time of the year, while watching a movie on the resort's giant sail screen. Here's hoping they never show "Jaws."

Chunky's Cinema Pub

371 Lowell Avenue
Haverhill, MA 01832

Dinner and a movie can be the perfect date, but what happens if you only have time for one or the other? Chunky's Cinema Pub offers an entertaining solution. Patrons are seated in comfortable leather seats taken straight out of a limousine. Staff will deliver your meal, wine and beer right to the table, as the movie plays. The menu offers Hollywood-themed entrees, including the "First Wives Club Sandwich" and a "Kevin Bacon Cheeseburger." But don't be late for this ride; Chunky's recommends showing up early to ensure you get a seat.

Museum of Science 3-D Digital Cinema

1 Science Park
Boston, MA 02114

3D may not work for all movies, but imagine coming face-to-face with a great white, roaming with the dinosaurs or finding the hidden wonders of the Earth in the third dimension. Sounds fun to me. The 3D Digital Cinema at the Museum of Science features all kinds of educational and entertaining films. You can't beat the prices at $10 for adults and $8 for children.

Movies Under the Stars

Adams Town Hall
8 Park StreetAdams, MA 01220

Peg Noonan Park
Main Street
Falmouth Village, MA 02540

Bostonians looking for a road trip can enjoy the great outdoors and a great movie at the same time. Two towns, Adams in the Berkshires and Falmouth on Cape Cod, offer "Movies Under the Stars" during the summer months. Whether you prefer the beach or the woods, each venue offers family-oriented fare. And the best part, it's free.
