Man arrested after charging at Rep. Omar

Now, it's not clear-- it's not clear what the liquid was specifically that the man used in that syringe. Security tackled him to the ground, as you see there, and led him out in handcuffs. But we're also getting a look at a new CBP report on the deadly shooting of Alex Pretti, and it contradicts the original DHS account of what happened. The report reveals a Border Patrol agent found Pretti's gun during the struggle. Then two agents fired their weapons. Nowhere does the report show Pretti pointed the gun at agents. Secretary Kristi Noem is at the center of the scrutiny over this, and now some Republicans are joining calls for her to resign, splintering from President Trump. But the president says she won't step down. I think she's doing a very good job. I think she's doing a very good job. The border is totally secure. You know, you forget we had a border that I inherited where millions of people were coming through. Now we have a border where no one is coming through.

However, Mr. Trump does seem to be responding to the criticism over Minneapolis. Border Czar Tom Homan is now in charge of the operation there.

We have Tom Homan there now. We put him in there. He's great. And they met with the governor, the mayor, everybody else, and we're going to de-escalate a little bit.

Our team of correspondents is covering every angle of this story for you. Jarred Hill has a look at how former patients are remembering Alex Pretti. Natalie Brand is standing by at the White House with the latest from the Trump administration. But let's first get you to our CBS News correspondent Ian Lee, who is reporting from Minneapolis. Ian, good morning. This man who attacked the congresswoman, what do we know about him, and how is the congresswoman responding today? Well, we know that this is a man who charged her last night, Representative Omar, when she was talking about abolishing ICE and criticizing the homeland security secretary with a syringe with that unknown liquid. Now, someone there at the event said that it smelled very bad, but Representative Omar was defiant, saying she wouldn't be intimidated. She kept talking for about 30 more minutes, taking questions from the public before being checked out. She initially refused to be checked out. Now, we know the suspect, a 55-year-old man. He was taken into custody. He's in county jail. He will be charged with third-degree assault. But Capitol Hill police say they want to work with federal partners to see if there's anything else that they can charge him with because they want to send a message that you cannot attack members of Congress, Errol.

There was a new Customs and Border Patrol report shared with Congress. What did it find?

What's interesting about this report, Errol, is what it says and what it doesn't say. We do learn about the moments leading up to the shooting. There was that confrontation between Pretti and agents. They were tackling. They tackled him. We hear that video. Someone yells, "he's got a gun" About five seconds later, that's when we hear those gunshots go off. Two officers-- two agents firing their weapons, but they also took his gun prior to that, and it was put in one of their vehicles. Now, what's interesting is that right after that incident, Homeland Security came out saying that these were defensive shots, but nowhere in the report does it say that Pretti went for his gun, he had his-- he tried to grab his gun. So it's what they left out which is interesting and what a lot of people are questioning. They're also questioning about the chain of evidence after this event. The gun that he had was taken. It was disarmed. It was put on a seat of a car. But people are criticizing it for not being put in an evidence bag and not maintaining the scene, and that's something we've been hearing from local and state officials, too, because they want to be part of this investigation. They don't trust that the federal government will be impartial.
