IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - An Irving teen is on trial accused of choking an ex-girlfriend to death.

The murder trial of Jacob Boyd, 17, began Monday with prosecutors claiming he met Rachael Wiest, 16, at a friends house to discuss their relationship in May of last year, after the two had recently broken up.

Wiest was a sophomore at Nimitz High School, and Boyd was a junior.

Prosecutors said after several advances, Wiest refused to have sex with Boyd, so he broke her phone and put her in a headlock.

Prosecutor Jessica Trevizo cross examined first responders on the stand Tuesday, who said Boyd confessed that he put her in a headlock and held her there for, "5-10 minutes until, her face turned blue and her body stopped twitching."

Initially Weist was taken to Baylor Medical Center Irving and was then transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas where she later died.

Several fellow Nimitz High school students are expected to testify that Boyd was obsessed with Wiest. The medical examiner will take the stand Wednesday.
