ELLIS COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Before a custody hearing Tuesday in Waxahachie, an agreement was reached between the Ellis County Sheriff's Office, Ellis County Attorney's Office, the SPCA of Texas and the owner of seven cruelly treated animals for the animal owner to relinquish ownership of the seven animals to the SPCA of Texas.
The owner was Dallas police sergeant Kandy Standige.
The SPCA of Texas was awarded $1,524.25 in restitution. However, the SPCA of Texas does not actually expect to receive any of this money to help offset costs.
All animals will now be individually evaluated for potential adoption or placement on a case by case basis.
On August 4, under the authority of the Italy Police Department, the SPCA of Texas took custody of six dogs and one goat from a property in Ellis County.
The dogs were confined inside of a feces-filled, urine soaked house on the property," according to the SPCA of Texas. The goat was found in the backyard.
The animals appear to have varying health issues, including hair loss, and were covered in urine, feces, ticks and fleas.
