ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The Texas Rangers announced Wednesday that they have signed Manny Ramirez to a one-year minor league deal.

He will report to the club's Triple-A Round Rock affiliate on Thursday and work out for a few days before being officially activated.

Texas Rangers GM Jon Daniels tells 105.3 The Fan " We believe in giving guys second chances and if he's got something and fits in our winning culture, we'll consider giving him a shot."

Daniels also indicated that Ramirez has agreed to wearing the team jersey properly and will cut his hair.

Reports say Ramirez will earn $500,000 pro-rated at the big league level.

Ramirez began the year with Taiwan's EDA Rhinos of the Chinese Professional Baseball League, batting .352 (64-182) with 8 homers, 13 doubles, and 43 RBI.

Ramirez's last major league appearance was with Tampa Bay in 2011. He was suspended for 50 games in 2009 while with the Dodgers after testing positive for a banned drug. He retired in April 2011 instead of serving a 100-game ban for a second positive test, but later agreed to a reduced 50-game suspension and played in the minors for Oakland in 2012.
