Graphic Anti-Tobacco Ads Proposed For Stores (Photo)
Smokers can't escape the bad press about their habit and now a Massachusetts law could throw it in their face in the worst place possible, where they buy cigarettes.
If approved by the State Public Health Department, nasty posters showing black lungs and rotten teeth will be on display at cigarrette racks and next to cash registers. If retailers don't comply, they could face up to 300 dollars in fines. Federal stimulus money is helping to pay for the 315,000 dollar campaign, which allows states to provide the materials to retailers at no charge.
The proposal, which is expected to be passed, will be decided on in August.
