DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas County Sheriff's Department is seeking witnesses to the incident that occurred in the Dallas County Jail's main lobby area at approximately 10:25 AM on Saturday August 1.
Investigators believe there are numerous individuals who witnessed all or part of this incident that could provide valuable information.
Joseph Sheldon Hutcheson, 48, ran into the jail lobby screaming his wife was out to kill him. A spokesperson for the department said Saturday Hutcheson was behaving erratically and would not calm down before officers had to restrain him. That's when he collapsed, and deputies began CPR until paramedics arrived to take him to Parkland Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
"The more information we have, the better," said Sheriff Valdez. "Witnesses could provide detectives with valuable details concerning the incident, as the investigation remains ongoing."
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call the Dallas County Sheriff's Department Criminal Investigations Section at 214-653-3489 or 214-653-3490.
Also, the Sheriff's office says the initial information released on Saturday indicated that possible narcotics may have been observed in the vehicle. The information gathering was still on-going at that point and was not accurate. After a vehicle search was conducted, no narcotics were found in the vehicle.
