Burglars Shot In Fort Worth, Crash Getaway Car In Arlington
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Two masked burglars crashed their getaway car in Arlington minutes after an officer shot them driving away from a crime scene in southwest Fort Worth Monday afternoon.
At about 2:30 p.m., a neighbor saw two masked men breaking into a home next door in the 1800 block of Kingsbrook Trail and immediately called police. The homeowner was at the store when the suspects broke into his home.
However, the two suspects were running from the burgled house as the homeowner drove up from the store, police said.
At least one of the suspects pointed a gun at the homeowner, but a police officer arrived and ordered everyone to drop to the ground.
"When I got here, they were coming out the door," said Fred, the homeowner whose home was burglarized. He did not want to give his last name. "I guess they panicked and were going to get away."
The suspects then jumped in their car. Police said the suspects drove toward the officer who opened fire, shooting both. The two crashed the getaway car in Arlington, about four miles from the scene of the crime.
"Officer had to defend himself," Fred said. "They tried to run him over."
The neighbor who called police said the suspects were dressed in black and one had a bandana over their face.
"I watched for a little bit then I seen them kick in the front door," neighbor Danielle Bucholtz said. "I was panicking."
Both suspects were taken to the hospital and treated. They are now in police custody. Fort Worth police officials have not released their names.
"Fort Worth police were on top of their game today. They saved the day and got the bad guys," Fred said.
Police said they believe the burglary was random.
