A great place to learn about Dallas history is the Dallas Historical Society. The Society offers numerous tours year-round from its home base at the Hall of State in Fair Park. Tours include a step-by-step educational program about the JFK Assassination, a tour of historic neighborhoods, a tour of local wineries and many seasonal tours, including haunted house and cemetery tours during Halloween. Preservation Dallas is well known for its commitment to preserving Dallas' unique historic sites and landmarks and providing educational opportunities for residents and visitors to learn more about the city's heritage. The nonprofit organization offers public tours, including tours of the Wilson Historic District, which is located near the organization's offices on Swiss Avenue. Tours are available Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Stockyards Station offers a number of local historic tours, including walking tours of the stockyards, a visit to the cattle drive that runs through the area twice a day, and visits to the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Livestock Exchange Building.
