Beautiful Weather This Week, But Super Bowl Week Iffy
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - We're about to see the nicest stretch of weather we have seen this month, with mostly sunny skies tomorrow and Friday. Temperatures tomorrow will warm into the 60s and on Friday we will be near or just above 70 degrees. The warmest day this month was a high of 67 degrees, so we will have the warmest day of the month coming up on Friday.
Saturday will see a few more clouds but temperatures will still warm into the upper 60s and possibly into the 70s depending on the amount of sunshine we see.
An upper level low will travel over South Texas Sunday and Monday. We will be close enough to that low where we will see some rain chances on Sunday and Monday. Best area for rain will be south of DFW.
Monday will be the start of a cold week. Temperatures will drop through the day into the 30s by evening. More rain will be possible on Monday.
Tuesday the cold air will be with us with highs in the 30s. There could be a wintry mix on Tuesday depending on if there is enough moisture left around.
There is differing solutions from the forecast models on how cold the air will be and how long the cold will stick around. The European model is the coldest with morning temperatures in the 20s and highs in the 40s through Saturday. The Global Forecast System (GFS) model warms us into the 50s and 60s by Friday and Saturday of next week.
Which one do I feel is more correct? I would have to lean toward the colder European solution. Of note too, is that the European also has another upper level system arriving Super Bowl weekend. This would likely bring rain, but that will be dependent on how much cold air remains in place.
The GFS has a dry weekend for the Super Bowl, so unlike this week which has been relatively quiet, our showcase on the world stage could feature some good old fashioned Texas weather.
