Back To July On Monday

Last week we had significantly cooler temperatures (including Saturday with a high in the 70's). This coming week is more like July:

This morning tied a record low. That means the record books now have three July days-in-a-row that show 2014 as the year of the record low (or last occurrence). The last time that happened was back in the 20's.

Today was in the low 90's and very humid (dewpoints were at 70°, the highest as any afternoon this month).  Tomorrow looks even warmer:

About the only break in the heat this week will come from a storm system moving from Missouri into Arkansas. It'll be close enough to bring in a backdoor cold front (one that comes in from the northeast or east) Wednesday night. This could trigger strong storms. On Thursday the frontal boundary hovers over north Texas; that means storm chances and cloud cover (and slightly cooler temperatures).

Interesting to note that the upper air pattern is shifting at the end of the month. We'll again see a dominant trough over the eastern half of the United States. This should bring in rain chances and cooler temperatures at the end of the month:
